Wiki Politiki host Steve Bhaerman is a writer, author, and humorist, who has spent the past 35 years writing and performing in the guise of cosmic comic Swami Beyondananda. Swami’s comedy has been described both as “comedy disguised as wisdom” and “wisdom disguised as comedy.” Noted author Marianne Williamson has called Steve / Swami “the Mark Twain of our times.”
Prior to launching his career as the Swami, Steve was an educator, author and publisher. He started an alternative high school in Washington, D.C. in the late 60s, and wrote a book about his experiences, No Particular Place to Go: Making of a Free High School. He later taught labor history and ethnic studies at Wayne State University, and creative writing at University of Michigan. He was the author (with psychologist Don McMillan) of Friends and Lovers: How To Meet the People You Want to Meet (Writers Digest Books) and used what he learned to meet his wife Trudy. They celebrated their 33 1/3 wedding anniversary last year, officially making them a “long-playing couple.”
Steve also co-founded Pathways Magazine in Ann Arbor, Michigan, one of the first holistic publications in the country, and the place where the Swami made his debut. A political science major (and no, he never did get to dissect a politician in poly sci lab), Steve has always been a “political solutionary” looking to apply what he learned about holistic health to “the body politic.” In 2009, he co-authored a book with cellular biologist Bruce H. Lipton, Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There From Here (Hay House), where the chapter “Re-Discovering America” looks at the spiritual and Native American influences in the founding of the United States, and the chapter “Healing the Body Politic” highlights promising solutions for the present and future. In 2011, he published an e-book Reuniting America co-authored with conservative transpartisan activist Joseph McCormick.
Wiki Politiki is his latest project to inspire and empower a new political order that he calls “Deep Center.” It’s not the centrist bipartisanism that seeks to preserve the status quo (impossible in the current evolutionary environment), but rather a transpartisan awareness that comes from honoring the sacred (whether that be represented by a Deity, a One Spirit, or the Web of Life) and building a world of thrival for each and all. When people remark, “Oh, that sounds utopian,” he likes to remind them that one of the great visionary philosophers of the 20th Century, R. Buckminster Fuller, wrote a prescient book entitled Utopia or Oblivion. That, says Steve, is our stark choice and our greatest opportunity.
Steve recently became the co-f0under of a new independent media platform focused on “People … Purpose … Planet”, Moblized.news https://mobilized.news/
